The Arctic Tale was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I've always been interested in polar bears and the Arctic. Yet this was the first time I had seen something so realistic. A whole 9 months, the life of the Arctic.
This movie gave me many ideas.
In english class we were learning about argumentation. We were given assignments to choose supporting the thesis statement that was given. One person asked a question like " if you turned of the sound of the movie, you wouldn't be abel to feel the movie that deep." It was something like was photography more influential than writing. I then thought of what Mr. Loken had told us to think about. The Narration of the Arctic Tale. How did the narrator know how those animals were thinking? They just say what they feel is happening. Yet to the previous question, I answered, " No, it would actually be better for the sound to be turned off, because the narration could actually change the aspect towards what we see, or what we feel about the movie. When you look at the picture in a first person view, as the first person, you have your own thoughts and ideas of what you think is happening or going on. Everyone's opinions are different and everyone's aspects are different." Yes. The narration does change how we feel towards this movie. To add something, Yes, I agree with your comment Mr. Loken. I believe that music is something that plays a role in everyone's lives. No matter if you hear it for fun, your career or your interest, it still more or less includes in your daily life. I know many of my friends who listen to different style and kinds of music depending on their mood, yet wouldn't it be the same the other way around? Wouldn't music affect the mood that you are currently thinking? But yet, because it also effects your mood, doesn't it also effect the way you feel? Then isn't it the same thing as the narration? Yes I am contradicting myself again...
Something that I noticed from other classmate's blog was the topic of Animal's Emotions. Oops! I totally forgot about this point.
There were two or three "images" that would just pop into my mind when I think of animal's emotions. The first one would be death. The death of Nanu's brother(A Polar bear) and the death of Seela's Auntie(A walrus). I noticed one thing about those animals facing death. They also feel sorrow. Both wouldn't face the truth that the one that they loved had passed away. They stayed there, waiting and hoping for the return of those loved ones. Yet due to their life conditions, they had to leave to keep themselves alive. I believe if they didn't have the problem of staying alive, then they would have never left their loved ones; brother and auntie. The other aspect of emotions is protection. Throughout the whole movie, you could see that the mothers had protected their children 24/7. Making sure nothing would happen to them.
By wrapping this up, I would like to talk about how they filmed the Arctic Tale. When I saw those camera men jumping into the icy cold water, I felt like I had also jumped into the icy cold water with the camera man! I have always dreamed about going to the Arctic regions, yet after knowing the conditions and how strong you would need to be, I then changed my mind. I am so amazed by those camera man! Their passion in filming, and their passion in making this Arctic Tale.

Ho yo yo u speak lyk ur takin on MSN or Yahoo tho.
it's nice~careful with the type =..=+
I think you have made a really nice connection with what we are doing in the English class!!!! I know do believe that narration influences what we think. The meaning of the film might be changed and become more subjective if there is narration.
I like your suggestion to turn off the sound. Maybe it could have been set only to music? This would have been a stronger post if you could have used an example to support your argument.
I disagree. Narration is not helping much, but it's necessary in some ways. It guides the audience. Yes, it is bad in the sense that it changes people's perspective because it just go ahead and tells you how they "think". There SHOULD BE narration but now anything about what the animals were thinking.
Also, i thought the movie was way too long. Since it was so long, if there were only music it might just makes it tedious.
I have different idea. I think narration only can lead to focus on movie. Because, we have different feelings. Well, it might be same ideas sometimes. But, i would like to say the idea of narration and audience got simmilar ideas.
Good post with relate with your English Class and music. It makes me to compare and think really easy.
